[message]Meet Nat: A Naturally Talented Ceramics and Acrylic Artist at Art Shed Brisbane
At Art Shed Brisbane, we’re lucky to have a team full of creative, passionate individuals. This week, we sat down with Nat, one of our incredible staff-member-slash-artists, to learn more about her artistic journey, inspirations, and top tips for artists of all levels.
A Fun Fact About Nat
Did you know Nat has six wisdom teeth? That’s two extra! It’s no surprise we think she’s extra wise!
Nat’s Art Practice
Nat is a mixed media artist who primarily works with ceramics and acrylics. She loves incorporating natural elements into her art, such as clay and botanical materials like dried flowers and leaf imprints. Nat uses mostly midfire and stoneware clay for hand-building, slab rolling, and slip casting, often painting intricate designs with underglazes on greenware and creating naturally occurring leaf impressions. She also experiments with new materials, including glazes—most recently 24k gold lustre on porcelain earrings made from molds—and explores resin, textiles, and edited reference images to create unique designs for her paintings.
What Inspires Nat
Nature is Nat’s greatest muse. Whether it’s plants, flowers, or earthy textures, she draws endless inspiration from the world around her. For portraits, she loves exploring a variety of styles—from geometric and abstract designs to hyperrealism.
“I love too many things and can be inspired by anything!”
Nat’s Favorite Product at Art Shed Brisbane
Nat swears by Inktense pencils, praising their versatility.
“You can use them on fabric (just heat set them!) or mixed media and watercolour paper,” she says. Perfect for artists who love experimenting with different mediums.
Where to Find Nat in the Store
You’ll often find Nat at the counter, helping customers with their projects and offering advice.
What She Loves About Working at Art Shed Brisbane
For Nat, the best part of working at ASB is the variety of artists and projects she encounters daily.
“I absolutely love the staff and the business values—otherwise, I wouldn’t have been here for seven years!”
Nat’s Hot Art Tips
- Invest in good brushes: They can make all the difference in your work.
- Preserving flowers in resin? Make sure they’re dried! Real flowers will rot if preserved as-is.
Nat’s passion for art, nature, and helping others shines through in everything she does. If you’re in-store, don’t hesitate to say hello or ask for her advice—she’s always happy to share her creative wisdom!
Plus, if you’re looking for a last-minute creative gift or want to treat yourself, you can find Nat’s art on our counter to take home with you—a selection of ceramic and resin jewellery and trinket trays.
